Colorado Heritage Camps for Adoptive Families

Vietnamese Heritage Camp
July 29th - August 1st, 2010 at Estes Park, CO
2009 Directors: Kristin Morgan-Tracy, Gigi Bayley
"The most valuable part of camp is the way our daughter looks forward to camp each year, and talks about different aspects of it all year. Her high level of comfort in being with kids and counselors that look like her, and being with multicultural families. Her pride in being "different" is such a refreshing contrast to how I grew up wanting to "blend in". -Vietnamese Heritage Camp 2006 Evaluation Comment

Vietnamese Heritage Camp is one of a handful of camps in the US specifically designed for families with children adopted from Viet Nam. Committed to exploring Vietnamese culture and growing as adoptive families, it is sponsored by the highly respected Colorado Heritage Camps, Inc.

In this, Vietnamese Heritage Camp’s 12th year, we’ll be checking out what’s “Hot in Viet Nam: Vietnamese Pop Culture.” Collaborating with volunteers from the Vietnamese-American community, including Vietnamese adult adoptees, we plan to having a grand time, exploring the hip music, games, shows, entertainments, fashions, and foods of Viet Nam today!

Also, we’re very excited to announce that this year, Vietnamese Heritage Camp will be held in Estes Park, Colorado. Estes Park, the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, is a major tourist destination in its own right, and also is offering us first-class facilities and lodging for camp, at the Estes Park Conference Center and Rocky Mountain Inn. It’s going to be a great year!

Notice the date change to conflict with less school start times around the country!

What's Happening in 2010?

Pre-school and elementary workshops will include old favorites like dance and martial arts, and new ones to introduce our kids to some of Viet Nam’s equivalents of Hannah Montana and Wiis. We’re also asking our younger kids to collect their pennies, nickels, and dimes, to donate to this year’s More Than Me project. See more about our More Than Me program, a trade mark of Colorado Heritage Camps, at http://www.heritagecamps.org/morethanme.html.

We call this “Kids Bring Change,” and we’re doing it again in 2010, so kids, please start saving those pennies!

Our new venue at the foot of the Rockies provides wonderful new opportunities to get our middle and high schoolers outside, having adventures. We’ll have more information about what’s available as we get closer to camp. We’re also exploring some great possibilities for this year’s More Than Me fundraiser, likely focusing on getting disadvantaged kids in Viet Nam off the streets and into school. And of course, this year’s camp theme has a lot to offer to this age group. After all, who knows more about what’s hot than middle and high schoolers?

Adult workshops will also feature new takes on old favorites, like hot (and spicy) cooking classes, and new topics for facilitated discussion groups and adult adoptee panels, as well as new workshops about this year’s camp theme.

Come ready to groove to hip music, watch hip shows, check out the latest fashions and trend-setters, and basically have fun in style – Vietnamese style, of course!

Vietnamese Heritage Camp 2010 is the place to be July 29 to August 1! Space is limited, so please sign up early.

We look forward to seeing your family at camp!

Though we have very strong support from the local Vietnamese community, we are always looking for more volunteers to work with the kids, teach workshops, cook meals, etc., and to be counselors at camp. Please consider joining us this year as a community volunteers!

As a non-profit 501 C(3) organization, Vietnamese Heritage Camp is always seeking financial assistance to help keep camp costs reasonable for families, and still provide an outstanding program. If you'd like to help, please go to the Donations section of this web site, and thank you very much in advance.

We are also in need of donations of frequent flier miles to help defray costs of out of state speakers.  If you have miles you can donate please email us at info@heritagecamps.org

We hope to see you at camp this summer. For further information, please contact us .
