Colorado Heritage Camps for Adoptive Families

Highlights of Last Year's Camp

We returned for the fifth year to Snow Mountain Ranch to explore the 2007 theme, “The Trans-Siberian Railroad.” Campers had the opportunity to experience different stops along the railway through crafts, cooking, games, music, and dance. The middle and high school campers also enjoyed Snow Mountain Ranch recreational activities (middle school-canoeing and zip line and high school-rafting) along with crafts. Parent workshops included parenting and adoption themes as well as cooking and history.

One of the highlights was the building of a replica of St. Basil’s Cathedral which was an all-camp activity, and was not to be believed when it was finished!

The opening ceremony included the Russian Bread and Salt tradition of welcome along with the retelling of the “Firebird” and information about the upcoming journey on the train. As the kids left the opening, they were each given a train ticket to begin their adventure. Friday evening the families enjoyed time together. While the kids roller skated, parents and community members enjoyed tea and desserts along with just a bit of vodka tasting. Violin music supplied the background music. Saturday night was a beautiful representation of “The White Nights Festival” with entertainment from traditional dancers.

REECA Camp 2007 saw many members of the Colorado Russian and Eastern European community join us to share their knowledge and insights about key aspects of the culture. Their participation gave a more authentic understanding for our families.

Although we have built a strong network of community volunteers, we are always looking for more volunteers to work with the kids, teach workshops, cook meals, etc., and to be counselors at camp. Though we have built on this community participation each year, we’d especially like to invite more members of the Eastern European and central Asian communities to join us as volunteers this year! Please consider joining us this year!

As a non-profit 501 C(3) organization, Russian/CIS Heritage Camp is always seeking financial assistance to help keep camp costs reasonable for families, and still provide an outstanding program.  If you'd like to help, please go to the Donations section of this web site, and thank you very much in advance.

We are also in need of donations of frequent flier miles to help defray costs of out of state speakers.  If you have miles you can donate, please email us at info@heritagecamps.org

We hope to see you at camp this summer. For further information, please contact us.
