I did not realize how much camp would help me as a Parent too!” FHC Parent

Filipino Heritage Camp is one of a few camps of its kind in the country, specifically designed for families with children adopted from the Philippines. Committed to exploring both the cultural and the adoption aspects of growing as an adoptive family, it is one of ten camps facilitated by the highly respected Colorado Heritage Camps, Inc.. We are celebrating our 9th year at FHC this year with an exciting joint event; the annual Filipino Heritage Camp and the first Filipino Adoptees Network (FAN) conference! This is an unprecedented event, which will welcome adoptive families and adult Filipino adoptees from across the country in a union of the first generation of Filipino adoptees with all those who have come after them…we can’t wait!!

Filipino Heritage Camp is a family camp with programming for each member of the family. Campers from toddlers to grandparents participate in classes and workshops taught primarily by Filipino Americans and professional Social Workers who enthusiastically share their expertise with adoptive families.
Filipino American counselors serve as role models and mentors to the children as they participate with them in cultural classes while adult family members attend cultural and adoption related workshops ranging from Filipino cooking and customs to the blessings and challenges inherent in our adoptive families. FHC also encourages young adult Filipino adoptees to join us as counselors to gain a deeper understanding of their culture while sharing their own adoption stories with each other and their younger counterparts.

This year's camp will again be held in the beautiful Colorado Rockies at the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch facility near Winter Park, CO www.ymcarockies.org - a family vacation destination in itself. Registration materials will be going out this Winter, so NOW is the time to request registration information to be placed on our mailing list.

What are the plans for 2008?

Camp for 2008 will be more than just a camp and more than just a conference; it will be an event! Filipino Heritage Camp is proud to welcome Filipino Adoptees Network (FAN) in a joint event that will stagger the imagination. FAN is a network of adult Filipino adoptees that started 5 years ago and has quickly grown internationally as the resource for adult Filipino Adoptees. This year we are proud to be able to come together for children’s workshops, adult workshops plus workshops benefiting both adults of adoptees and adult adoptees themselves.

Our theme this year is “Passport to the Philippines" as we explore the three main regions of this beautiful Country. With your passports received at registration, you will have an opportunity to visit Luzon, Mindanao, and Visayas to appreciate its changing topography, different languages, and delicious regional food, and their wonderful customs; all from the beautiful mountains of Colorado. Located 75 miles west of Denver in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the setting for Camp is truly spectacular!

The elementary workshops will include sessions on building a working volcano, and discovering the Filipino love of music, dance, entertainment and games!

There is specialized programming for our middle and high school aged campers, including outdoor educational activities provided by Snow Mountain Ranch, "Philippine golf", Martial Arts and more opportunities for the kids to just “be” together. The Middle/High school group will also continue their “More than Me” projects with Uplift International, making care packages for the children of the Philippines to ease their pain after life giving surgeries.

With FAN joining us this year there will be special opportunities for adoptees both young and old to join together and share stories and develop new and lasting relationships. This is an opportunity that cannot be missed!

Parent workshops will include sessions on family and adoption related issues. Among the workshops for Parents will include the popular cooking classes, adoptee panel, and exploring the islands of the Philippines. We are thrilled that our fabulous friends and supporters from the Filipino-American Community of Colorado will be with us again to teach us about their culture, entertain us, and participate in all of our camp activities. We couldn't do it without them!

Our "Pistang Pilipino" or Filipino Market will be filled with fabulous cultural items from the Philippines. Like past years, there will also be an excellent assortment of adult and children’s books ranging from adoption to Filipino Cookbooks and folk-tales.

We look forward to seeing your family at camp!

Though we have very strong support from the local Filipino community, we are always looking for more volunteers to work with the kids, teach workshops, cook meals, etc., and to be counselors at camp. Please consider joining us this year as a community volunteers!

As a non-profit 501 C(3) organization, Filipino Heritage Camp is always seeking financial assistance to help keep camp costs reasonable for families, and still provide an outstanding program. If you'd like to help, please go to the Donations section of this web site, and thank you very much in advance.

We are also in need of donations of frequent flier miles to help defray costs of out of state speakers.  If you have miles you can donate please email us at info@heritagecamps.org

We hope to see you at camp this summer. For further information, please contact us.
