Colorado Heritage
Camps - Making a Difference Today and Tomorrow
CHC,
Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, so very donation you make is tax
deductible! The program fees we charge participating families simply do not
cover the organization’s costs of providing ten heritage camps each year.
To secure the future of each and every heritage camp, we must raise an estimated
$150,000 above and beyond the camp program fees paid each year.
Here’s how you can help:
Contribute What You Can!
You
can send a personal, tax deductible donation by donating on-line by credit
card, or by mailing a check or money order to Colorado Heritage Camps, Inc,
2052 Elm Street, Denver, CO 80207. If you wish, you can designate how you would
prefer your contribution to be spent – sponsoring a counselor or presenter,
providing a scholarship for another family, bringing a cultural performance
to camp, or where the need is greatest.
$100 will sponsor a presenter to come and teach the children and/or parents
at camp about their culture, about raising adopted children, and sometimes
just about life in general! This includes food and lodging while at camp.
$200 will sponsor a counselor, the heart and
soul of every camp, including food, lodging, t-shirts, supplies, etc. at
camp, and a background check before
they are accepted as counselors.
$400 will sponsor a family a four to receive scholarship funding to attend
camp, when economic hardships make it difficult to do so.
$800 will
sponsor travel expenses for guest speakers and/or cultural entertainers
to attend camp.
$1,600 will sponsor camp programming, such as ethnic lunches, the cultural “village,” children’s
workshops, teen workshops, parent workshops, materials and supplies, truck
rentals, and much more!

More Ways to Help…..
Contribute to the creation of our endowment fund:
An endowment fund will sustain Colorado Heritage Camps and secure our long-term
future CHC has been operating heritage camps for 19 years, and it has stayed
financially solvent. However, each year, costs are going up to run the camps,
and there is constant concern about finding the additional funding needed
to keep camps affordable for families. An endowment will ensure that CHC
will be able to serve families and children for many years to come and will
provide a sense of security for the organization to continue providing heritage
camps for adoptive families.
We also have a long term vision for purchasing our own facility, a “forever
facility” for adopted children and their families to enjoy year round.
This is a slow and careful process, but having funds in place for this purpose
may lead to a facility we own, not one we spend enormous amounts of money renting
each year.
Help Start a New Camp for ALL Adoptive Families!
Help us fund a brand new camp in 2010! Yes, we are going to offer a two-day
camp for families with children who have been adopted domestically, for families
who want more of camp than their own “heritage” camp. This camp
will be a way for us to continue a mission by providing families with a chance
to be with other families “like them.” It will be a chance for
adopted children who may not have the obvious cultural differences from their
parents, to spend time with other adoptees, learning and playing together,
while their parents receive all of the amazing workshops we offer at our other
heritage camps, that often provide valuable information about raising adopted
children, no matter where they came from.
Come to our More Than You and Me Gala!!
Last year was our first annual gala fundraiser, and we had so much fun we
are going to do it again this year! It will be in the Spring of 2010, and
there
will be information on our web site coming soon, as well as invitations
via the web and in the mail! Please do join us for a fun-filled evening of
dinner,
dancing, cocktails, a silent auction, and live entertainment! It really
was a great party last year, and for a great cause. A portion of the proceeds
went to support our “More Than Me” program, and will again in 2010!
Get More Bang for Your Buck! Corporate Matching Gifts
Are you seeking to maximize the impact of your cash giving? Matching Gifts
program will double eligible contributions for qualified nonprofit organizations
like Colorado Heritage Camps. When you make donations, qualified nonprofit
organizations will receive a cash match. Most corporations have partial or
full matching gift programs to support their employees’ cash donations
to the organizations the employee chooses to support, either financially,
or through volunteer hours. This is a powerful and EASY way to make your
donation go so much further. Does your company match your donations? These
programs are very easy to participate in, usually a single web page or form.

Donate Securities in an Up or Down Market!
Often, you can receive substantial tax benefits by donating stocks or bonds,
regardless of market conditions. For appreciated assets, you can deduct the
fair market value of the asset donated and pay no capital gains tax on the
increased value. For assets that have declined in value, you can sell the asset
and claim the loss, then donate the proceeds of the sale to CHC for a charitable
deduction. Please contact our account representative Tim Jordan at Neidiger
Tucker Bruner, Inc., and he will be happy to assist you. His number is: 303-575-8167
and his e-mail is: tjordan@ntbinc.com.
Ask Your Relatives and Close Friends!
How many people in your life know you attend heritage camp every summer?
How many know how important it is to your child and family? How many of you
have
brought grandparents, aunts, uncles, close friends to camp with you? How
many just know you and love your child? Remind them of the “gift that keeps
on giving” – a donation to heritage camp!
Donate a Vehicle
You can donate your used cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, recreational vehicles,
campers to Colorado Heritage Camps, Inc. through “Vehicles For Charity” at
1-866-628-CARS, or visit online at www.vehiclesforcharity.org They will even
pick up that old jalopy for free at your home or office. You will be provided
the donation documentation that you need for your tax records.
Give Through United Way
Although CHC, Inc. is not listed as a partner agency, you can still designate
our non-profit during your annual United Way funding drive at work by writing
in “Colorado Heritage Camps, 2052 Elm Street, Denver, 80207.” Our
United Way number is: 4346. You can also provide information to your co-workers
about our organization and what it has contributed to your families’ lives
and encourage them to elect CHC, Inc. as well.
Donate Frequent Flyer Miles!
There are many talented people from around the country and the world who
are willing to volunteer their time at camp if we can cover their transportation
costs. This includes keynote speakers, workshop facilitators, and counselors
anxious to attend a camp in Colorado. If you can donate some frequent
flyer miles, please contact Pam Sweetser, Executive Director at hcamps@comcast.net
Search, Shop and Give!
GoodSearch is a search engine which donates 50-percent of its revenue to the
charities and schools designated by its users. It's a simple and compelling
concept. You use GoodSearch exactly as you would any other search engine.
Because it's powered by Yahoo!, you get proven search results. The money
GoodSearch donates to your cause comes from its advertisers — the users
and the organizations do not spend a dime!
In 2007, GoodSearch was expanded to include GoodShop, an online shopping mall
of world-class merchants dedicated to helping fund worthy causes across the
country. Each purchase made via the GoodShop mall results in a donation to
the user's designated charity or school – averaging approximately 3%
of the sale, but going up to 20% or even more.
To help Colorado Heritage camps, simply go to www.goodsearch.com, and fill
in Colorado Heritage Camps where it says “who do you goodsearch for?” It
is as simple as that, and very helpful! Same with their online shopping – now’s
the time of year to do it!!
Volunteer Your Time and Skills
It is volunteerism from parents and community members who make each camp
happen, but there are also opportunities to volunteer to help keep CHC on
solid financial
footing. Did you know that CHC has an active grant writing team and fundraising
committee? If you can help pursue a grant or help with our annual fundraisers,
please contact Pam Sweetser, Executive Director at hcamps@comcast.net.
Consider Planned Giving to donate through bequests, charitable gift annuities,
and more.
Planned gifts can provide enhanced tax benefits and sometimes income to
the donor, but more importantly, can enhance Colorado Heritage Camps now
and
in the future. Planned Gifts can be earmarked for an endowment fund, where
the
gift is invested and kept in perpetuity. Only earnings are used each year
for specified purposes. This provides fiscal stability and long-term planning
options
for CHC. Please contact our account representative Tim Jordan at Neidiger
Tucker Bruner, Inc., and he will be happy to assist you. His number is:
303-575-8167 and his e-mail is: tjordan@ntbinc.com.
Thank you very much We couldn't do it without you!
