Colorado Heritage Camps for Adoptive Families

Counselor Information

Year after year, children tell us that their counselor was the MOST important part of camp for them! Many of their parents agree! Our counselors are enthusiastic young adults, some adoptees themselves, some not, who have the same ethnic background as the adopted children at each camp. They participate in all of the camp workshops and activities with the kids, but MOST importantly, serve as positive role models for the children and families who attend camp.

Hertiage Camp Counselors & Happy Campers!Though our counselors are solely volunteers, the camp pays for all food and lodging while at camp. If you are applying from out-of-state, it will be up to you to arrange and pay for your own transportation to camp. This experience may also be used as credit toward community service requirements in high school or college courses, and the Executive Director has written many letters of recommendation for counselors applying for scholarship or employment opportunities. Counselors must be 18 years or older to apply.

If you are interested in becoming a Heritage Camp counselor, please submit the following application at any time, but no later than one month prior to the applicable camp date. The Counselor Coordinator will contact you, if you have been accepted as a counselor, with further details about your role at camp.

In order to protect the safety of our children, volunteers, and all campers, CHC is implementing an updated Criminal Background Check policy. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated to achieve our common goal.

1. Have you ever (in your lifetime) been required to register as a sex offender?

2. Have you ever (in your lifetime) committed, entered a guilty plea, entered a no contest plea, entered a deferred sentence, been adjudicated for, or been convicted of any of the following crimes:

Answering yes to any of the questions below does not necessarily disqualify you from volunteering for CHC. Please contact Pam Sweetser, Executive Director at office@heritagecamps.org if you need clarification or have questions.

Any sex offense?
Assault?
Fighting?
Any crimes against persons?
Any drug related offense?
Any alcohol related offense? (including, but not limited to, DUI, DWAI, Minor in Possession of Alcohol)
Any theft offense or offense involving fraud or dishonesty?

3. I hereby consent to a criminal history and background check, and will complete any necessary consent forms or paperwork to do so.

4. I authorize the release of any information that CHC needs to conduct a criminal history and background check.

5. I confirm that I shall not allow anyone who is not an approved CHC counselor into any CHC cabin, room, facility, or area.

6. I confirm that I shall immediately notify the Camp Directors, if I know of any such person. (Notification may be done anonymously - the Camp Directors will abide by the "no snitch" rule)

7. I confirm that I will not invite any CHC camper into any private cabin, room, facility, or area without other adults being present.

8. I hereby declare, under penalty of perjury, that the answers I have provided are all true and correct.

Answering "no" to any of the above questions 3-8 may disqualify you from acceptance as a CHC counselor.
