Highlights of Last Year's Camp
The
Year of the Pig was celebrated with a flurry of new activities and fun events
as well as traditional camp favorites. From Opening Ceremonies until the all
too quick Closing Ceremony, both kids and parents were immersed in Chinese
food, tradition, education, games, entertainment, information and shopping!
The children participated in Chinese songs, dances, games, Martial Arts, the
ever-popular Village, and our trademark workshop “HeART Talks” which
focuses on adoption related issues that are geared towards giving them the
tools they need to become healthy, happy adults! Our middle school and teen
campers loved their “Journey through China”, attended Chinese cooking
classes and utilized many of the Snow Mountain Ranch outdoor activities, including
rafting, hiking and canoeing. They also had one-on-one time with our guest
speaker, Dr. Jane Liedtke, full-time as CEO of Our Chinese Daughters Foundation.

As part our “More than Me” program, the middle school kids donated
money they had earned and made gorgeous fleece blankets for her to distribute
back in China. Roller skating parties and a high school “sleepover” made
evenings more exciting for this age group.
The adults attended workshops about various adoption related issues, Chinese
Culture, “HeART Talks” for Parents Discussion, Neurodevelopment
workshops, Panel Discussions, attended a Book Club, participated in the
very popular Chinese Cooking, Mah Jong, and even soared on the Zip Line!
On Saturday evening families, counselors, and members of the Chinese Community
joined together for an evening set up as a Chinese Village, with photo-ops
with costumes, story telling, a tea ceremony and a great Silent Auction. We
danced, we shopped, and we were entertained by a Chinese fortuneteller. What
a great way to spend the evening! The children were the entertainers Sunday
evening at the annual “Celebrate China!” event where they performed
what they learned at camp for their proud parents.
The Chinese Market was filled with fabulous Chinese items ranging from books,
clothes, jewelry, household items and gifts. They also sponsored chances for
awesome prize drawing items. Our great cooks have taken our Chinese lunches
to a new level and brought families together each day for food and fun.
The camp goes by so quickly and yet it is such an enriching way to spend time
with your family, and with families “just like yours!”
Come join
us again in 2008!
Though we have generated very strong support from Colorado's Chinese community,
we always need more volunteers to
work with the kids, teach workshops, cook meals, and to be counselors at
camp.
As a non-profit 501 C(3) organization, Chinese Heritage Camp is always seeking financial assistance
to help keep camp costs reasonable for families, while providing an outstanding program. If you'd like
to help, please go to the Donations section of this
web site, and thank you very much in advance.
We are also in need of donations of frequent flier miles to
help defray costs of our out of state speakers. If you have miles you can donate please email us at info@heritagecamps.org
